Privacy

This policy explains what information WiCal processes, why it is used, how it is retained and the choices available to you.

Scope and operator

SeokHo Kim (“the operator”) operates the WiCal app and this support website. Send privacy questions and requests to seokho0330@gmail.com.

WiCal uses your iPhone’s system calendars without its own account or sign-in. This policy covers WiCal’s data practices. Your calendar accounts and external services are also subject to their providers’ policies.

Calendars and device features

With full calendar access, WiCal reads event titles, dates, times, time zones, locations, notes, URLs, recurrence rules, alerts and calendar information to display your schedule. Creating, editing and deleting events updates the selected system calendar. Account synchronization and calendar retention follow your device and calendar provider settings.

Preferences such as selected calendar identifiers, the first day of the week, notification settings and widget navigation state are stored on your device and shared between the app and its widgets. Event notifications are scheduled locally. Widgets and Live Activities may show event titles, times and locations. You can also manage Lock Screen visibility in device settings.

If you share an event, event information such as its title, time, location and notes is passed to the app you select.

Subscription tracking in 1.1.0 stores the service names, amounts and currencies, billing cycles and dates, free trials and management links you enter on your device, shared with WiCal widgets. WiCal does not send these records to its own server or request card, bank or subscription account credentials. Payment reminders are scheduled locally. Opening a management link is subject to the external service’s policies. Deleting an entry removes its record from the app. Device backups follow separate settings.

Photos selected by you are downsampled and stored in the on-device App Group for widget backgrounds. Original metadata, including location, is removed and the copies are excluded from backups. You can save multiple photos, choose one for each widget, and delete each stored copy in the app. WiCal does not send these photos to its own server or analytics services.

Maps and location text

When you open the details of an event that includes a location, WiCal sends the location text to Apple’s geocoding service to obtain coordinates for a map. Apple services process requests associated with map features.

Advertising and consent

WiCal uses Google AdMob for banner ads and Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) for advertising privacy choices. Advertising, measurement and fraud prevention may involve IP-based approximate location, device or installation identifiers, ad impressions and interactions, and diagnostic information. The information processed depends on consent status, device settings and advertising service configuration.

Before requesting ads, the app updates UMP consent status and shows a consent form when required. It separately requests iOS tracking permission when needed. Declining tracking does not stop all information processing for advertising or diagnostics.

Usage analytics, crash and performance information

WiCal uses Firebase Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring to improve stability and performance. Crash reports, performance metrics, device and app version information, installation identifiers, IP addresses and derived country information, and network performance information are sent to and processed by Google. The app currently has no separate setting to turn off this diagnostic collection.

Starting with WiCal 1.1.0, Firebase Analytics collects app launches and sessions, screen views and feature usage to understand use and improve the app. Google processes SDK analytics information such as app installation identifiers, device and app information, and approximate region. Event titles and notes, subscription service names and payment amounts are not included in analytics events. There is no in-app analytics switch; advertising consent is handled separately. Firebase Analytics remains disabled in version 1.0.0. See the Google Privacy Policy for processing and retention information.

According to Firebase’s documentation, Crashlytics begins deleting crash stack traces and associated identifiers after 90 days. Performance begins deleting IP-associated events after 30 days, and installation-associated and de-identified performance information after 60 days. Email and website use

If you contact us by email, your reply address, sender name, message and attachments are used to handle support and privacy requests and follow-up correspondence. Include only relevant information and hide event titles or other people’s contact details.

Inquiry emails and attachments will be deleted once the inquiry and any follow-up have been completed.

This website has no advertising, our own visitor analytics scripts or contact forms. Google Firebase Hosting serves this site and may process connection information, such as IP addresses, to handle requests and protect the service. See the Google Privacy Policy. Legacy GitHub Pages addresses direct visitors here; GitHub Pages logs visitors’ IP addresses for security purposes. See the GitHub General Privacy Statement. Email is received and managed using Gmail.

Your choices and deletion

  • Calendar access: Revoke WiCal’s permission in iPhone Settings. Calendar viewing and management will be unavailable after access is revoked.
  • Notifications and Live Activities: Manage permissions and visibility in device settings. Turning off event notifications in WiCal removes notifications scheduled by the app. Already delivered notifications can be cleared in Notification Center.
  • Advertising: Change your choices in iPhone tracking settings and, when available, WiCal’s Ad Privacy Options.
  • Calendar events: Delete events in WiCal or the system Calendar app. Depending on your account’s sync settings, deletion may also affect other devices. Deleting WiCal alone does not delete system calendar events.
  • App and SDK information: Device preferences, backups and external service data have different retention periods. Uninstalling the app does not immediately delete all device and server data. Manage device backups separately in iCloud or computer backup settings.

To request access, correction or deletion of personal information handled by the operator, or to raise a concern, contact seokho0330@gmail.com. We will explain the minimum information needed to locate and verify the request. For data controlled by an external service, we may direct you to its process. Provider retention practices or applicable legal obligations may prevent immediate deletion of some records.

Service providers and safeguards

WiCal uses services from Apple (system calendars and maps), Google (advertising, consent management, diagnostics, performance monitoring, usage analytics, website hosting and email) and GitHub (legacy address redirect hosting). External services process information under their privacy policies and service terms, and processing may occur outside your country of residence.

Changes and contact

If the app’s data practices or services change, we will update this page and its effective date. Changes requiring additional notice or consent will follow the applicable process.
